It has been quite some time since I (Becca) have last blogged. Recently, my family members have come up to me and said how much they’ve liked reading Jason’s blog. Since it is OUR blog, I was a little bit offended, but then realized that Jason really has been blogging more than I have.
The reasons for this has been that my undergraduate college career came to an end last Saturday, when I graduated, and the weeks leading up to that have been spent preparing for it.
So this is a time for lots of change! Spending two months in a country where I (barely) know the language is a little bit intimidating, but also very exciting! The thing I look forward to mostly will be getting to know our students on a personal level. This was my favorite part about South Africa; my relationships with the students. I loved getting to know about them, their culture, and home lives through stories that they would tell me. So I’m looking forward to doing so when we arrive in Honduras in just 6 days!!
If you are in the Boston area on Saturday, stop by our fundraising event (Rock the Hope) from 3-6 at Barlows Restaurant in Southie! $15 bucks a ticket, to listen to some awesome music by The Gentleman Outfit! Buy your ticket before thursday and you’ll have a chance to win a $100 gift card to O Ya Restaurant (Zagat’s Best Japanese Restaurant in Boston 2011)!
We look forward to seeing everyone there!!! Thank you to everyone who has been reading and supporting us. We couldn’t have done it without you! It is all of OUR journey, rather than just Jason and mine.
-Becca
PS. The Concord Journal printed THIS ARTICLE about our project last thursday! Enjoy!

Takes a Village
In just under a week Becca and I will start our Malaria medication, which makes Honduras seem all the more real. I simply can’t believe how quickly our departure date, June 4th, is approaching. It seems like just yesterday that we returned from our volunteer work in South Africa with Tremendous Hearts. I still have the children we worked with seared into my brain, I think about them constantly, I know Becca feels the same way. I met up with Marilyn Votaw, Tremendous Hearts founder, last night, and was able to ask her specific questions about our students and how they are doing. Four students are no longer under the care of the government and have left foster care. It is really hard to imagine things not exactly as we left them… The other 33 students are still living healthy lives! Four of our older students are doing well in school and have joined an after school program focusing on HIV and AIDS education/prevention through Cycling and other activities.
I can remember their names, their faces, their body language, and the way they each would interact with me if I was to be put in front of them right this second… We miss each and every student a great deal. They made such a huge impact on our lives.
I have been using their memory as a spring board for motivation over the last ten months. They have been pushing me to get up every morning and to work as hard as I can to make this project in Honduras a success. They have also been motivating me to succeed in graduate school, to be the best teacher I possibly can be.
But, that’s my story. My journey. This is OUR journey, its yours too! Over the last year, Our Journey has had well over a hundred donors come together to make this opportunity possible. We can’t thank you enough for reading or donating supplies, money and/or time to this project. Together, we can make the world a better place by taking action. By giving opportunities. By giving a voice to those unseen and under privileged. By working together, and sharing our passions and gifts with others. And by questioning why things are the way things are…
Although only four volunteers will step foot in Honduras as volunteers for Esperanza - Hope For The Children, know that we carry you all with us. It takes a village to change the world. Thank you for being apart of this project!
